Greg Sexton Review
I have purchased two Terry Rogers "Mallie" Guitars and basically play them
exclusively. This is at the expense of my Tom Anderson Drop Top Classic,
Musicman Van Halen, and PRS Guitars. Why? Because it is the most musical and
versatile guitar that I have ever played. Once you become accustomed to the
sensation of sliding your hand up the multi radius neck and it's scale
anything else feels awkward and foreign. True, the Musicman screams, but the
"Mallie" sings. You don't miss anything, in fact there is much more.
A push of the tone knob splits the custom humbuckers into true single coils
that sound like it. Clear Strat-like in between sounds are available and you
are not switching guitars for every sound. Very much like the Anderson
guitars, you can really hear the wood and strings vibrate, and the tone
shows it. And unlike the Musicman this guitar sustains like the PRS with
clarity. The neck position is extremely musical and useful. Want harmonics?
Bite and punch without harshness? The bridge position speaks for itself,
just listen to Terry's solos on his website.
A final word about workmanship and finish. These instruments are works of
art. Maybe even an investment, although that is not why I bought. I
purchased a second guitar based upon the beauty of the quilted top. The
setup is perfect and the intonation is superb. Terry backs up his product
and has personally helped me with some questions and issues regarding his
instruments. Be sure and use his custom strings. They really do make a
difference.
What else can I say. I love this guitar!

You deserve many applause for the design of this guitar. I've played many guitars that claim to be innovative, but it's usually just a radical body design or something else not material to the playing ability. This guitar, however, truely is unique, as it plays like no other. The first time I held the guitar I was blown away by the neck.Not only was it as beefy as can be, but wow,innovative! The neck is actually chubbier below the 6th string than below the 1st string.This was a sensation that at first was a bit unusual but within 20 minutes I knew that I was "hooked", literally. Because of this design your thumb sort of hooks on to the chubby end and really allows your fingers to do all they can. After 90 minutes of shredding my hand was not at all fatigued (usually it is). The only problem with the neck is that I am now addicted to it. This guitar is also as or more versitile than any on the market. The pickup selection and configuration is brilliant. I was able to get more cool tones with the push-push configuration than I could believe. Last but not least, these guitars belong in an art collection.I am amazed at the consistant quality of the quilt and flame maple tops. I have seen six of these guitars in person and one was more breath taking than the next, topping even the finest of PRS maple tops. I own over twenty high end guitars and my three Mallie's are without a doubt my favorite from playability to asthetic.

Terry Rogers "Mallie" Not only the Mallie makes feel familiarity to Eddie Van Halen maniacs in appearance, but also has many features in the specifications as follows. * Neck Design The back of the neck is designed more extreme shape than Musicman's and Peavey's with the non-symmetry that were Eddie's Signature models previously and it might make a little sense of incongruity as soon as they play the guitar, but they will surely be aware of the greatest playability soon. Only a couple minutes play and the customer loves it. Please once try it. * The materials of the body and neck? The materials of the body and neck are similar to the previous Eddie's signature models, but the top of the body is designed complicatedly and also very beautiful and pods for vol & tone are put in the groove of the face of the body. The Mallie has more features, but what we would like to everybody the most is that she was born by the hands of Terry Rogers who is the No.1 Van Halen guitar expert on the planet and John Suhr who has the greatest reputation for setting of the Floyd Rose and that she has the Buzz Feiten system built in the neck design and finally, the Mallie is harmonic adjusted by Terry Roger's unique setup. We would like everybody who loves guitars to try playing the Terry Rogers "Mallie" at any cost. You will love it with the greatest Van Halen tones. I am an enthusiastic fan of Eddie Van Halen and have been looking for the best guitars of Musicman and Wolfgang for many years. One day I found the Terry Rogers "Mallie" that had a great quilted top for the guitars when having came across Mr.Terry Roger's collections,and I was very excited by the highest quality of all the guitars for the materials when I saw the real "Mallie" at his stand at the NAMM Show in February 2000. The Mallie is the greatest guitar with Buzz Feiten system and Terry's unique harmonic setup that I have ever come across, and it has settled the problem of the shaky sound through pickups that we have always experienced when using the Trem Arm of other signature models so far. We are surprised at the neck of the guitar with the extreme shape of the non-symmetry when handling it at the first time, but only a couple minutes play and we get to really feel the neck and love it. The Mallie has a luxury color for the back of the body and position markers and also is designed to be better carve at top than other signature model's, but has a big sound and clearer tone compared with them. Finally, I would like to highly recommend to everybody with my belief as a repair-man and a player the "Mallie" design by Terry Rogers, built by great Mr.John Suhr and set up to generate the excellent harmonic tones finally by Mr.Terry Rogers. My initial reaction to the Terry Rogers Mallie Guitar was surprise at
the unique neck. At first, it was awkward because it is not the typical
neck. However, within five minutes it began to feel like a part of my
hand rather than a separate object. I found this guitar incredibly
comfortable to play.
The Mallie also has a multitude of tones achievable with the unique
push/push tone knob in contrast to the typical push/pull knobs on other
guitars. The more I experimented with the different tones, the more I
realized that this guitar could be utilized in any genre of music. I
think this is the reason why I love the Mallie so much.... it is not
limiting in any way.
Balance is also a factor with this guitar. Unlike a Les Paul which
feels very heavy to me or a Strat which is too light. The Mallie can
achieve all of the great qualities these guitars have, but adds the
comfort of a well balanced instrument.
The craftsmanship is also superb, it is by no means a cheaply made
guitar. From the beautiful birds eye neck to the arch top with flamed
or quilted patterns, it looks and feels absolutely great. I personally
recommend this guitar to any serious guitar player.
Terry, you out-did yourself, and many others, with this beauty.

The guitar I played was a 1999 model, custom made in the USA by John Suhr, 22 frets, beauitiful quilted maple top on basswood body with birdseye maple neck. The guitar has a volume and tone control(which can be pushed in to create single coil tones), pickups are two custom Dimarzio humbuckers. The body has a very unique profile which makes the guitar very comfortable to play. The neck of this guitar is very different as well, it literally fits your hand like a glove. The bridge is a gotoh floyd type unit that is blocked.
Sound: 10
I play many styles of music, rock, blues, metal, jazz. This guitar has one of the most incredible tones I have ever experienced! I tried this model through both a 5150 and Soldano head. The pickups sound very much like a great old PAF with a very rich and complex tone which reminded me of early Van Halen records. The single coil sounds are really exceptional as well.
Action, Fit, & Finish: 10
This guitar was set-up perfectly, low action with effortless playability. The quilt top was stunning! Most importantly to me, it DID NOT go out of tune!!!!!
Reliability/Durability: 10
Built like a tank, top quality hardware and electronics, the finish was world class with a beauitiful quilted maple top!

I have been playing for around 18 years. This guitar is one of the very best that I have ever played. It is one of those rare instruments which allows you to play above your normal level!! I would highly reccommend it to those who want the best!

"The TR Mallie is by far the best 6 string electric I've ever played or heard as far as versatility, playability, and looks. The neck is so unbelievably comfortable to play one can't understand without playing it. I've been
playing PRS Custom 24s, Ernie Ball Van Halens, Peavey Wolfgangs, American
Strats and Gibson standard Les Pauls for the last six years and the only way
you can compete with the Mallie is putting all of these in one guitar.

The playabilty, the feel, sound,design and the craftsmanship of this guitar will want you having one. The neck is the most playable and most outstanding feeling (fits like a glove) guitar that you will ever play in your life. The balance of the guitar is excellent. I met Terry in Pensacola, Florida. He was marketing his guitar. Aside from being a good person, he is a genius. His brain child is both a pecisice instrument and a work of art. It wasn't until I picked it up that its uniqueness was realized.
At first look, the Mallie seemed almost average. When I strapped it on,
there was no adjusting the strap to get the guitar where I needed it to
be to play. It seemed to hang balanced and in correct position. I later
learned that this was by design. Not only that, but the multi- radiused
fret board felt extremely natural and made a difference in how I played.
The pickup configuration and wiring can produce many tone variations
without signal processors and/or amplifiers. I don't know much about
guitar electronics, but I do know every little piece counts. You really
can hear and feel the difference in this guitar.
Being made from high quality woods and hardware adds to the alure of
this piece. The mallie rivels other top end guitars like the Paul Reed
Smith line, and I would also put it up against traditional axes like
Fender and Gibson.
The Mallie is a truly amazing piece that can only be realized by playing
it. Great job Terry, and keep up the good work.
